Advancing Innovation: Patent Pending for Air Sampling with Syringe Device for TO-17

Advancing an innovative approach to making sample collection activities more efficient for its clients, Merit Laboratories has filed a provisional patent application for an air sampling with syringe device.  The patent application, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, is for the invention of an Air Sampling with Syringe Device and Method.

This patent pending invention addresses the need for an improved sampling device and process to ensure safe, effective, and accurate compliance with air sampling methods.  The patent pending invention improves upon limitations associated with older air sampling technology, including mechanical or electrical pumps and hand-operated pumps. These older pumps are best used for lighter compounds but not appropriate for heavier or longer chain semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs).

Merit’s patent pending-solution for SVOCs in air includes a sampling with syringe device and method that forms a necessary consistent pulling force for effective sample collection capable of controlling the volume obtained.  The sampling device invented by Merit Laboratories includes a base forming a liner channel for holding and fitting a syringe.   The syringe includes a plunger within a barrel and a hub configured to extend out from the base in a linear configuration to access a sorbent tube.

It is recommended that clients contact Merit when setting-up up an air project to ensure appropriate sampling media is selected based upon the data quality objectives established for project-specific requirements, including list of compounds and reporting limits.

Merit Laboratories is one of the nation’s leading environmental testing laboratories, analyzing air, soil, wastewater, groundwater, drinking water, and other sample matrices for a diverse range of analytical parameters.
