Through the Reclaim the Rivers program, announced by the state on October 6th, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are committing $89 million in state settlement funds to river cleanup, habitat restoration, and expanded public access. The initiative will focus substantial resources on the Detroit River and Kalamazoo River watershed while also supporting strategic restoration projects throughout Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued an update for the on-going investigation into PFAS contamination at the Wolverine Worldwide Tannery and House Street site in Rockford, Michigan. According to the update, the contamination comes from Wolverine Worldwide’s former tannery in Rockford and a waste dump known as the House Street Disposal Area in Belmont.
